So, you saw the post on the FP, and one on Oppo, and now great journalism has turned up the owner of the Jeep in the surf at Myrtle Beach and why it was there. Stupid cousin who drives a motorcycle was driving it (be
cause it was raining and he didn’t have a car)
, didn’t notice a runoff spot, and buried it. Then he didn’t tell the owner and tried to get help, but apparently failed. I’d be very irritated to have the police tell me about it instead of my cousin.

“He avoided me for a good hour or two because he didn’t know what to say and then police actually came to the house. And they said, ‘Hey we found your Jeep on the beach.’ Then I called him and spoke to him and he told me exactly what happened,” the Jeep’s owner said.

It’s one thing to make a mistake, but to not tell the owner (and your cousin) until the police knock on his door is just shitty.

They really should have kept the GC’s image hidden until everyone had time to notify next of kin. That’s just bad journalism.
FWIW, everywhere I’ve ever been where cars are allowed on the beach, there are tons of heroes waiting in the wings to save every tourist idiot from getting their minivan stuck in the soft sand.
OTOH, I have seen 4WD municipal beach trucks get stuck like this as the tide was coming in. Winching them out is really tricky.

Classic.....I hadn’t seen the piper. Also, that’s really stuck? I’ve driven on sand and know it’s tricky, but from the video, that really looks like it should have been able to get out of there after dropping a few PSI out of the tires.

Stupid cousin who drives a motorcycle was driving it
...because it was raining and he didn’t have a car.
Also, people were posting selfies/ photos with the Jeep all day.

It read to me as though the passenger front tire got buried in the soft, wet runoff sand. I assume that it would need to be dug out a bit, then pulled. Seems feasible, but difficult if a hurricane then comes along.

Eh, sure, I have edited my bit to add that . . . I figured that people would get that from the article, but I see that my writing could leave the wrong impression.

I see people make this mistake all the time at Fiesta Island in San Diego. You can drive right on the beach to setup, and people who aren’t use to it get in the soft stuff and get stuck.
There is a Jeep (Wrangler) club that comes in on the weekends who help pull those folks out.
Those this area is filled with a lot of dozer bros with lifted 4x4s, they usually don’t get stuck.
